There are a multitude of ways in which dance can positively affect your mental health.
Dance can improve your self esteem and build your confidence.
Have you ever learned a new dance and found yourself smiling from ear to ear when you were able to master that eight count? Now that’s the positive power of dance. You feel like you can do anything you put your mind to.
2. Dance can encourage social interactions.
Dancing with family, friends, or even strangers could uplift your mood. Dance is the language of the soul so you don’t even need to know the actual language of whomever you may be dancing with. (Isn’t that amazing!)
3. Dance can improve/combat memory loss.
Muscle memory is real, but it also can help you engage in other tasks that may be beneficial to your daily activities such as remembering numbers, a scientific topic, and even story lines. This is why Dance Education is so instrumental in public schools! (We can talk more about this…)
4. Dance can aid in decreasing anxiety and depression.
One of the main negative experiences for individuals suffering from anxiety and depression is the lack of energy and willingness to get up and move. (I understand this feeling 100%) Dance can help release those endorphins and encourage an individual to take a break from negative thoughts.
